Planetek Italia has used a Geographic Information System for the evaluation of the sanitary risk related to the electromagnetic pollution caused by high tension electric lines.
In the last years an intense debate rose, both at a scientific and public opinion level, around the health risk deriving from the exposure to electromagnetic fields in Italy. Planetek Italia has used a Geographic Information System for the evaluation of the sanitary risk related to the electromagnetic pollution caused by the high tension electric lines.
This project studies the problem of electromagnetic pollution generated by low frequency waves, at 50-60 Hz, present near high tension electric lines. This is a crucial point of the environmental issue that involves the scientific research, the information, the perception of the risk and the laws related to the production, distribution and use of electricity. The core of the debate about energy concerns the evaluation of the scientific evidences like cancer risk deriving from electromagnetic fields. Some observations seem to individuate a correlation between electromagnetic fields and various pathologies: i.e. those of the reproductive system, of the pregnancy, of the nervous system, and above all the possible induction of the most common malignant neoplasias among the children resident close to high tension lines.
